Bahala is an introspective role simulation game of a troll farm, exploring the moral and societal complexities of political manipulation and digital warfare in the setting of a developing country. Spend the days following up to the election sifting through timelines and algorithms, manipulate post engagement to boost a client’s political image and suppress those who oppose.
✦ Development
Bahala was created in response to a prompt for my Game Prototype module 'Tell a Story'.
I was greatly inspired by Papers, Please, which I had a vested interest in as an indie success story, and Disco Elysium.
The narrative direction was prompted by the arrest of a controversial former Philippine president.
Event-driven architecture was used to handle dialogue choices and repost/like button triggered events. The development process used the Agile methodology, allowing for iterative refinement and responsive changes to mechanics and narrative direction to meet the module submission deadline.
I was awarded a 2:1 (Upper Second-Class Hons.) for the module overall and 1st (First Class Hons.) for my effective use and analysis of Agile throughout.
